Shout Out to Window Box Nursery

We just received the latest Window Box Newsery newsletter and discovered to our amazement a plug for this blog. Thanks Cheryl!

Cheryl was something of a mentor for us, plant-wise. When we owned and operated Nutglade Station in Dunsmuir, we used to give her our coffee grounds which she would put on her roses. Now we collect coffee grounds from the place up the street and place them on our roses. Cheryl taught us about pollarding, which is unfortunately no less common here than in Dunsmuir. From Cheryl and others in the Dunsmuir horticultural scene we learned that gardening is really all about the dirt.

For a while, I helped Cheryl with her newletter and from it I learned much. And to Cheryl this blog owes its title. Higglety-piggelty was how she described how not to do things, ie without a plan beforehand. Which is exactly how we (still) do things. FWIW, the domain mayoreric.com owes its name to Dunsmuir too. I was Mayor of that fine city for year a decade or so ago. I reckon that once one has attained the title, one may keep it forever. Like "Mayor Giuliani," "Mayor Daly," and "President Clinton."

So welcome internet-connected Newsery readers. Dunsmuir still holds a very special place in our hearts. As Mark Block often said, once you have lived there for an entire calendar year Dunsmuir becomes a part of you and you are never quite entirely free of it. And we are glad to exchange our high-pH organic matter for your acidic any time you like.

An acquaintence of mine in Cody used to say, "Those who drink of the Stinking Water will always return."
